My Story,
Let me start from the beginning...Well I was about 7 years old from the first trip I can remember my father taking me and my brother to the Red River, Okmulgee,OK ...This began weekend trips some times over night and some where just for the day...My Father was a cat man at heart but loved the fight at the end of a pole no matter what type of fish is was...I can remember him getting started on a Thursday after work putting our weekend together...He would gather the fishing poles, camping items, and grocery list and make the bait Wheaties and Wheat germ he rolled into balls and get out the Ole trusted chicken livers...When Friday evening rolled upon us we where off and fishing for the weekend...My dad was very into his fishing and he would get you set up and teach you all you needed to know and help you net your fish but while he was fishing he didn't like to be bothered...Very intense on watching his poles...
Years went by and I got much better at fishing and eventually had the same intensity when it came to watching the poles...I no longer needed him to bait my hook or tie on a new hook setup...However the big fish still eluded us...
My Father had a stroke when I was 16 years old and my fishing was over in my head...My best friend was my Father and he and I was connected at the hip when it came to fishing...I went into the military soon after this for a 3 year stint and forgot about fishing...However it was still in my blood and I always wanted to catch a big fish that had always eluded us...It was not till my Father had passed and I got married and had children of my own that I started fishing again...I made it a goal of mine to have my children grow up with fishing and hunting in there lives...It was not till last year that I truly caught a freshwater fish worthy of calling big...Thanks JW for your help with this 22.9lb Blue Cat and shortly after that I boated this 22.7lb Flathead you see in my Avatar...
My Family all fishes with me now and My wife (cats-r-us) to date has caught her PB a 14 lb. Blue Cat...
So to answer the Question
Why I like to Catfish? The Fight, the beauty, the feeling of the fishes skin, the smile in the pictures and I feel the spirit of my father every time I go and just know he is smiling...
